ROG Xbox Ally X 24GB 1TB SSD 7" IPS 120Hz W11H Gaming Handheld Console PC

ASUS

ROG Xbox Ally X 24GB 1TB SSD 7" IPS 120Hz W11H Gaming Handheld Console PC

  • Runs modern PC games and multiple launchers (Xbox, Steam, etc.) with solid performance for a handheld
  • Can double as a compact Windows gaming PC when docked, thanks to Windows 11 and 24 GB RAM / 1 TB SSD
  • Good controls and ergonomics with decent cooling design and a smooth 120 Hz 7" screen
After using the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X for a while, I see it as a powerful but slightly nerdy handheld. It runs real PC games well for its size, the 7" 120 Hz screen is pleasant indoors, and the controls feel like proper console hardware. Plug it into a dock and it doubles as a small Windows gaming PC, which is genuinely handy if you don’t want a full tower or big laptop. Hardware-wise, it feels solid and thought-through, especially for cooling and ergonomics. But it’s not a simple device. You have to deal with Windows 11, driver updates, Armoury Crate profiles, and some small software bugs. The battery drains quickly in demanding games, and the whole situation around the included charger is messy for something this expensive. If you expect a portable Xbox where you just turn it on and everything works, you’ll probably be frustrated. If you’re comfortable tweaking settings and you like the idea of a pocketable (well, baggable) gaming PC, it becomes a pretty solid tool.So who is it for? It’s for people who already like PCs, want their Steam/Xbox/Game Pass library everywhere, and don’t mind spending time optimising things. It’s not ideal for someone who wants a cheap, simple, long-battery handheld for casual use – a Switch or a basic console + TV will make more sense there. For me, it’s a good device with clear trade-offs: strong performance and flexibility, in exchange for high price, average battery, and some software rough edges.

Pocket EVO Android Gaming Handheld Console - 8GB RAM 128GB Storage, 7" 165Hz OLED Display, Snapdragon G3x Gen 2, Hall Sensing Controls, Active Cooling System 8GB LPDDR5X / 128GB UFS 3.1 Pocket EVO - Black

Pocket EVO Android Gaming Handheld Console - 8GB RAM 128GB Storage, 7" 165Hz OLED Display, Snapdragon G3x Gen 2, Hall Sensing Controls, Active Cooling System 8GB LPDDR5X / 128GB UFS 3.1 Pocket EVO - Black

  • Excellent 7-inch 1080p OLED display with high refresh rate and good brightness
  • Strong Android and emulation performance with active cooling to sustain it
  • Comfortable Hall Effect sticks and triggers with precise input and no drift so far
After two weeks with the AYANEO Pocket EVO 8GB/128GB, my feeling is that it’s a very capable Android handheld with a few clear compromises. The screen, controls, and performance are the strong points. The 7-inch 1080p OLED at 165 Hz is genuinely nice to look at, the Hall Effect sticks and triggers feel precise, and the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 with active cooling handles Android gaming, cloud streaming, and emulation up to PS2/GC very well. As a pure gaming machine, it gets the job done and then some.On the downside, this specific configuration feels a bit cramped. 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage are usable, but you quickly feel the limits if you install a lot of games and apps. The device is also not super light, and the fan is audible in higher performance modes, so if you want something totally silent and featherweight, this isn’t it. AYASpace and the custom launcher are helpful for organizing games, but they still feel a bit more “enthusiast” than “plug-and-play console”.If you mainly want a powerful Android handheld for cloud gaming, retro emulation, and modern Android titles, and you care a lot about having a good screen and solid controls, the Pocket EVO makes sense. Just be ready to add a big microSD card and to tweak settings a bit. If you’re on a tight budget, or you prefer a more console-like, simple experience, you might be happier with a cheaper Android handheld or a Switch. For tinkerers and power users, though, this is a pretty strong option with clear strengths and manageable flaws.

Legion Go 2 Handheld Gaming Console - 8.8 inch OLED Display - Detachable Controllers - AMD Ryzen Z2 - 32 GB RAM - 512 GB SSD - 144 Hz - Windows 11 Home - Eclipse Black

Lenovo

Legion Go 2 Handheld Gaming Console - 8.8 inch OLED Display - Detachable Controllers - AMD Ryzen Z2 - 32 GB RAM - 512 GB SSD - 144 Hz - Windows 11 Home - Eclipse Black

  • Large 8.8" OLED screen with good colors and very readable text
  • 32 GB RAM helps with modern games and higher texture settings
  • Detachable controllers and FPS mouse mode are genuinely useful for some games
After using the Lenovo Legion Go 2 for a couple of weeks, my feeling is pretty clear: it’s a strong handheld PC for people who know what they’re getting into, and a risky buy for anyone expecting console-like simplicity and long unplugged sessions. The big OLED screen and 32 GB RAM make games look good and run smoothly for a handheld, and the detachable controllers with FPS mode are more than a gimmick if you actually play shooters or like propping the device up like a mini TV.On the other hand, the battery life in heavy games is rough. Around 1–1.5 hours for big AAA titles is realistic, and that’s with some compromises on settings. For indies, cloud gaming, and remote play, it’s much better, but that doesn’t change the fact that this is not a 4–5 hour AAA machine away from a plug. Add the fairly high price and the weight, and it’s clearly not for everyone. If you want a portable Windows rig with a great screen, are okay tweaking power and graphics settings, and usually play near an outlet or focus on lighter games, you’ll probably be happy with it. If you want something more casual, cheaper, and with better battery life, a Steam Deck or another lower-power handheld might fit you better. Personally, I like it, but I’d only consider it at a discount or refurbished price, knowing I’ll mostly use it on the couch with a charger close by.
