New Super Mario Bros. Wii offers a combination of cooperation and competition. Players can pick each other up to save them from danger or toss them into it. Mario, Luigi and two Toads are all playable characters, while many others from the Mushroom Kingdom make appearances throughout the game.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii, like all the previous releases in the Super Mario Bros. franchise, is a side-scrolling platforming game where players collect coins as they progress through increasingly difficult game levels, timing jumps over obstacles and avoiding enemies. The game preserves the retro experience with new features including expansive play levels, new powerups, and most importantly, simultaneous multiplayer.
In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, players can navigate the worlds alone or invite up to three others to join for competitive and cooperative multiplayer. The multiplayer mode aims to provide family entertainment and engage groups of friends in fast-paced fun.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii uses the Wii Remote held sideways, reflecting the NES roots with the D-pad for directing characters, the 1 button for jumping, and the 2 button for projectiles. Players can access powerups by pressing a button or shaking the Wii remote, merging classic and modern gameplay design.
