Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story is a single player action RPG set within an off-the-wall storyline that takes players on the DS literally into the belly of Bowser. The game allows players to toggle between playing as Mario and Luigi, and playing as Bowser himself. This third installment of the Mario & Luigi franchise is filled with adventure and humor.
The story involves Mario and Luigi teaming up with Bowser to save the Mushroom Kingdom from an infection known as "The Blorbs," which causes Toads to balloon uncontrollably. Bowser, unaware of his role, is manipulated by the villain Fawful and swallows the council, including Mario and Luigi. Together with a microbe-sized Mario and Luigi, players must navigate through challenges to aid Bowser and stop Fawful's nefarious plans.
Gameplay is split between Mario and Luigi inside Bowser and Bowser himself. The players toggle between these narratives as actions in one can affect the other. Experience points are gained through RPG gameplay that includes leveling up characters, solving puzzles, and participating in mini-games. The integration of the DS/DSi's features provides unique interactions during battles.
